What mistakes do you need to avoid when working your home business? This is something that plagues not only people on my team, but people in other home based businesses. If you have ever heard of P90X, Insanity, Shakeology, PiYo, Turbo Jam, Turbo Kick, ChaLEAN Extreme, Turbo Fire, T25 then you know the name Beachbody, this is the company that I represent. Almost any fitness infomercial you see on television is from Beachbody.
There are so many home based businesses out there right now, including Arbonne, LulaRoe, you name it it’s out there. It really doesn’t matter what kind of home based business you get involved in, it’s what you do with it. What I like to do is share my answers, what I have done wrong, what I’ve done right and save you time, grey hairs, and some money along the way.
You just got started, or maybe you are just deciding to get started. A join date is one thing, a start date is a whole different thing. If you are just now getting started, I want to expedite the process for you. I am going to plead with you to do yourself a favor and don’t make this mistake. So many people, including myself, make the mistake of not talking to the people that are closest to them.
Don’t avoid talking to the people closest to you
We think we don’t want to bug our friends and family, the people closest to you. Those are the people that already know you, they like you, they trust you, this is your warm market. Working with your warm market is a lot easier than trying to get people online, that don’t know you, to come along with you on your journey. A cold market will take a lot longer to get people to come along with you and join in your new venture.
This is exactly what I did in the beginning with my best friends and family members. I told them that I didn’t know what I was doing, but I knew this business could help a lot of people. Don’t avoid the people in your warm market that know, like and trust you. I know what you might be thinking, especially if you have tried other home based businesses in the past, you may be thinking they don’t want to hear what new thing you are trying now.
One of my mentor’s from afar, Eric Worre, author of Go Pro, which is a great book on network marketing or multilevel marketing and home based businesses. One of the things he says is that it all comes down to integrity. Depending on your track record up to now, meaning who you have been, your follow through rate, your reliability, you may have to work a bit harder on building up your reputation among those close to you. So, if you have been one of those people that has a really good track record of follow through with your word that will work in your favor.
Don’t throw in the towel if you’ve tried things in the past and haven’t really followed through. You sticking to something, that’s building a whole new reputation which is a good thing. In home based businesses, if you want to do better than 90% of the other people involved in the business, stick it out for a year.
I’m not talking just being signed up as a distributor for a year, I am talking be consistent in moving your message forward, inviting people, constantly telling people you are doing this and asking them to do this with you. Don’t wait for people to rally under you.
You want to talk to your warm market first, your friends and family. They know you, they like you and they trust you. However, if they have seen you not follow through on other certain ventures, it may take some time to build back their trust in what you are doing. Start working on yourself through personal development and those around you will see the growth and want to join in your journey.
You have to set up some solid accountability with who brought you into this business, you need to align yourself with someone who will get on you and keep you accountable. Join with someone who is going to be there for you, but also remember you are important to the people that you introduce this to.
If you are to stick with being consistent for one to two years, consistently inviting people to do things with you, sharing things that are working for you, it will pay off. People will begin to trust you and your reputation will build. This also works for your cold market, though I don’t like to use the terms warm and cold market, but cold market refers to people you do not know.
When you decide to join a home based business be sure you join one that you know and like the products that they offer, so it’s not like you are being phony when you are sharing the products. If you really want to help people change their lives, you don’t want to be just a salesperson. Find a company that you really love their products, and be a product of the product, meaning you use them.
Remember you are helping people financially. I know the stigma of sharing a business with your family and friends, the uncomfortable feeling of not knowing what to say or how to say it. My advice to you is to just not be weird, just tell them what you are doing. It’s like inviting someone to a birthday party, I think of it just like that, I don’t feel weird if someone doesn’t want to come celebrate with me. I know that if I invite people to join me in something I am doing and they choose not to, that is their decision.
All the what ifs don’t matter, I understand it may feel weird in the beginning, but wouldn’t you want to share something that could help them physically or financially. If you truly believe in the products and services you are representing, wouldn’t you share with everyone you knew, even if you weren’t benefitting financially from it.
If you knew of a great retirement plan, wouldn’t you just tell your best friend and your family about it and want them to get in on it also. If you had a solution for weight loss and a solution for someone to make more money and work less, wouldn’t you want everyone to know about it. These are time saving, life saving, stress saving solutions and in the process you get to part of a team that celebrates you and your achievements.
Home based business rock! It doesn’t take a lot of money to get started. Pick someone to align yourself with that shares the vision you have for yourself. My mentors, along with my upline sponsor, don’t live near me but I learn from them through videos, podcasts, phone calls etc. In a business like this, you can be mentored from all types of people, not necessarily by people that live near you.
I ask all my coaches to stay consistent, especially if you are going to build a team. You want your team to know that you are there for them and are there to help them with their business and more importantly their journey.
Bottom line is don’t avoid your warm market, your family and friends. If I have the solution for time saving and less financial stress why wouldn’t I want my family and friends to have what I have. Why would I ever hide that from my family and friends? That is my recommendation for you, don’t make the mistake of not sharing this opportunity with your warm market, your family and friends. The people closest to you deserve to have the solutions you have found through your home business.
