Why MLMs Don’t Work

I have a hot topic for you today. Why MLMs, or Multi-Level Marketing companies, don’t work. Have you ever been part of a network marketing organization or a work from home business? If you’ve been part of an organization like that, you may be in the 90% of people who have experienced it not working.

I am not here to tell you that you shouldn’t be involved in a home based business. My experience with home based business has been phenomenal. I was one of those people, especially ten years ago before I got started with my home based business, that thought of it like a joke. I was so tired of being invited to home parties and pressured to buy stuff from my friends so they could earn free product. I always felt so much pressure to be at all of them and to buy something, even though I did not always need, or want, what they were selling.

Does this sound familiar to you? I vowed to never get involved in a home based business because it seemed to never work, it seemed like you had to pressure your friends, have a lot of inventory and none of this appealed to me.

Fast forward a couple of years, I found myself in a high amount of debt and I got invited to listen to the Beachbody opportunity. The difference with the Beachbody opportunity is that it was in the field of health and fitness. I had been in health and fitness teaching group fitness classes but it was basically to hold myself accountable to my workout.

Growing up in a family where many of my relatives were overweight and dealing with high blood pressure, diabetes, along with other health issues revolving around weight led me at the young age of ten to start yo-yo dieting. Realizing how unhealthy this was as well, led me to start on my journey of health and wellness, I started teaching group fitness classes for my own personal accountability and still continue teaching today for that very same reason of accountability.

When I was presented with the Beachbody opportunity, the fact that it was based on health and fitness, along with having brand awareness were all good reasons for me to take a look at it. By brand awareness, I mean that people already may know of the products they offer, for instance Shakeology, P90X, Insanity, and 21 Day Fix are all well known Beachbody products. With Beachbody, I teach people to do what I do, whether that’s getting into shape or learning how to own and run a successful online business where you can earn a full-time income while working part-time hours.

It is so important to have a Plan B in life, what happens if you are unable to work, what are you going to do? Having something to fall back on, a Plan B, is extremely important. If you are struggling financially, which happens to be most people I know at some point in their lives, this is a really good place to start.

Why don’t these things work if it is so simple? It’s simple but it is not easy. If it’s so simple, why do so many people fail at it? I have narrowed it down to two basic reasons.

People Give Up Too Quickly

When first coming on board with a network marketing you go for the five people who you know would benefit from what you are offering. If you are immediately shut down by those five people we often just give up. In other cases, maybe we want to tell people everything we know about our new endeavor and we may turn some people off to the idea. We just give up too quickly after not getting others on board with your opportunity.

Think about this, Thomas Edison failed thousands of times before he perfected the light bulb, can you imagine if he had stopped trying? I guarantee you fell at least five times when learning to walk, and kept trying. It is crazy how often we give up so easily on ourselves when we hear no.

Lack of Belief

Everyone has it to some degree. I had it when I started with Beachbody, all I wanted was to make was an extra $200 a month, so I wouldn’t have to worry about how I was going to pay for groceries. I had no idea I would be where I am today with my home based business. There are ways you can strengthen your belief in yourself.

Dive into personal development, whether it is reading a book or listening to podcasts, find topics that will help you believe in yourself. Talk to someone that believes in you and they can help assure you that you can do whatever you put your mind to.

I believe in you! I believe in everybody! I believe in second chances! I believe everyone has the ability to change their life and their family’s life. I am here to tell you that you have the ability to accomplish the same amount of success as I have, by believing in yourself and not giving up.
