Is Breakfast Important?

My name is Holly Hierman, (CEO of Fit Finances and online health and wellness coach)! I have a very important message to you today, and my message is all about breakfast.

Breakfast! So many people that I talk to say things like: “I don’t have time to eat breakfast”, or “I always forget to eat breakfast”, or “I’m just not hungry in the morning”. Well, I’m here to tell you that research has proven time and time again that eating breakfast first thing in the morning (within that hour of waking up) is critically important to your health and your fitness; kicking your brain into gear, kicking your body into gear, and not to mention, kicking your metabolism into gear. This is so important.

Did you know that if a sumo wrestler’s a little on the light side, one of the ways that trainers will get them to increase their body mass and their body weight is to not allow them to eat until lunch? Now, I used to be one of those people. I would try to wait until I was hungry before I would eat in the morning, because after all, I’d wanna get up and I’d wanna burn extra calories and kinda get a head-start on the day. But you know what? After I learned that one of the fastest ways for you to gain weight is to wait until lunch to eat, I immediately changed my habits.

Now, I fully believe that it’s no longer a good excuse to say: “I’m just not hungry”. You need to do what’s right for you and what’s right for your body, what’s right for your metabolism; what is going to benefit you the best and help you to become the best you.

So, now that you know better….you know better, and I want to encourage you to make sure that you’re putting something in your body (even if it’s little) each and every morning within that first hour of waking up. AND COFFEE DOESN”T COUNT! I’m talking about calories. I’m talking about a piece of toast, or a piece of fruit; something that’s gonna kick your metabolism into gear.

This is one of the things that I changed. I used to teach group fitness classes every morning at 5:45 in the morning. It was hard, because it was hard physical activity at 5:45 in the morning and I‘d wake up about 5 and I’d just to get to the gym. I noticed that my weight loss had reached a plateau, and in fact I was actually starting to gain a little bit of weight when I started teaching those morning classes, because again, I would just skip it. I’d think: “Oh, there’s creamer in my coffee. That’s good enough”, but once I changed it (and I just changed it to eating a very small – half – of a granola bar, or half of a protein bar before I taught that class), then the pounds starting coming off. And better yet, I starting drinking a meal replacement shake instead, before my classes, and the pounds starting coming off. It was very effective.

And so again, I just wanna encourage you. You definitely wanna make time to eat breakfast. And if you’re “on the go”, if you need something quick and easy then I definitely recommend finding a very highly nutritious shake that you can make and mix for yourself in the morning.

Alright, thanks so much, and you have a great day!
