Who’s Running Your Day?

Are you running your day or is your day running you? Do you feel as though you have numerous lists,  run around all the time, but still not completing much?

Let’s take a look at your day and figure out if you have control of your day or if your day has control of you.

How do you decide what needs to be done next in your day? If you don’t have an answer to this question that might be a good starting point to why you are feeling frazzled.

Are you in proactive or reactive mode? Do you make a list every day and tackle the most important tasks? Or do you wait for something or someone to need you and then you react?

Tips to overcome the feeling of spinning out of control:

  1. Whenever you feel like things are spinning out of control, mind dump everything in your head on a piece of paper. Write everything you can possibly think of that you need to do, remember, etc.

  2. Look at the things that you wrote down on your list then weigh them against the 3 most important things to you at this time in your life.  For each task ask yourself: “Is this important to my top 3 life priorities?” Anything that doesn’t line up with your top 3 priorities needs to be crossed off your list.

  3. Next you’re going to place an A, B, C, D, or E next to everything on your list.

A = Top priority, has a high consequence if not completed, is time sensitive, and can only be done by you.

B = Top priority, lower consequences, not as time sensitive as an A task and can only be done by you.

C = Can be done at any time and has lower consequences.

D = Can be delegated. Can be done by someone else or should be done by someone else. Check out Elance, Odesk and Fiverr.

E = A task that would be nice but can be eliminated. Cross it off.

  1. Develop your To Do List each and every day. Tackle A tasks first, B tasks second and so on.

  2. Always ask yourself if you are in a proactive or reactive mode.  Ask yourself: “Should I be doing this and why?”
